Donโt be fooled by the Muslim โinfluencerโ trend of embracing their so-called duality. Itโs a marketing gimmick. When they want to do something irreligious but still keep their Muslim follower count intact, they pull out the line: โIโm just embracing my duality. Some days Iโm religious, some days I just want to let loose.โ

Donโt buy this nonsense. There is no duality. There is the nafs, the self that incites to evil. And weโve been commanded to fight it, not brand it with hashtags and sell it as some holistic lifestyle.
Anyone trying to sell you the idea that embracing your nafs is a spiritual practice is hustling you. Run from them. They are packaging sin as self-expression. What they call authenticity is nothing more than indulgence, rehearsed and performed for likes.
Embracing oneโs duality looks bold and brave on the surface, but it is just cowardice with better branding. Spiritual maturity does not sprout from flaunting sin and calling it authentic expression.
Before the โdonโt judge meโ brigade chimes inโฆ this isnโt about judging people who falter. Everyone falters. Everyone sins. The problem is when sin is intentional, then put on public display. It is performance, scripted to look profound while it leads others astray.
The Prophet ๏ทบ did not tell us to embrace the nafs. He warned us against it, again and again. Imฤm al-Ghazฤlฤซ called it a thief that robs us while smiling like a friend. The path of the righteous is not to parade weakness as enlightenment. The path is to admit weakness, fight it, and beg Allah for His mercy. Anything else is just a spiritual minstrel show.

โIndeed, the soul is ever-inclined to evil, except whom my Lord has mercy upon.โ
(Qurโan 12:53)
"Fulfilling its desires (Nafs) and following its whims is what really harms it. Doing the opposite, although it may be difficult, is what really benefits it." - Al-Habib Umar bin Hafiz
