Thank you for participating in the very first 24 Hour Photo Challenge. The rules and guidelines below will help you get started. Please be sure to read through ALL of the rules & guidelines. Failure to adhere to the rules below could result in disqualification from the competition.

TERM / DEADLINE:
The 24 Hour Photo Challenge begins December 10, 2010 at 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time (PST) and ends December 11, 2010, at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time (PST). By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that they are 16 years old or older.
WHO MAY ENTER:
Photographers 16 years old or older—except for individuals officially affiliated with 24 Photo Challenge, including judges, partners, sponsors, volunteers, interns, and their immediate families (children, siblings and spouses). 24 Hour Photo Challenge will determine winners’ eligibility. There are no restrictions as regards to location. As long as you have an internet connection to submit your photo and are over 16 years of age, you may participate.
This is an amateur competition. No Professional photographers will be accepted. Professional photographer in this case means you make at least 50% of your income from photography.
PHOTO RULES (SHOOTING GUIDELINES):
Each photo submitted must meet ALL of the following criteria. If any element of the following criteria is missing from the photo, it will be disqualified from the competition.
YOU MAY USE ANY CAMERA THAT CAPTURES AN IMAGE (@ any megapixel): including, DSLR, mobile phone, polaroid, film camera, point and shoot, medium format, full frame, crop sensor, etc).
Photo must have all of the following in the shot::
- A BOOK: Can be a Holy book, novel, textbook, dictionary, encyclopedia, any language, any topic, any color, etc. NOTE: Cannot be a notebook, magazine, newspaper photo album, postcard, folder, or comic book). ::: Can be more than one book, but must be at least ONE.
- A SHOE: Can be tennis shoe, running shoe, bike shoe, football cleat, golf shoe, dress shoe, rubber, plastic, leather, eel skin, alligator skin, giraffe skin, bald eagle skin, any animal skin, any size, any color, any shape. NOTE: Cannot be open toe shoe such as a sandal, flip flop, open toe heel, etc). Can be more than one shoe, but must be at least ONE shoe.
- A PERSON: The person can be male or female of any age. The person does not need to be the main subject of the photo but must be visible in the shot. The person can be in any environment indoor or outdoor, day or night. Can be more than one person, but must be at least person. NOTE: The person does not need to be holding the book or wearing the shoe. It can be PART of a person (arm, head, leg, neck, shoulders, etc) with the condition that the part we see is still attached to the rest of their body. IMPORTANT: If you are not shooting a full profile, the the part of the person we see MUST be recognizable as belonging to a real human being.
SUMMARY: The photo must have ALL three of these items (visible) to qualify: A BOOK, A SHOE, A PERSON.
- You may EDIT your photo using any post editing software you choose. Adjustments, including exposure adjustment, spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and color adjustment (including monochrome / black and white) or the digital equivalents, are acceptable. You may crop your photo to any dimension you choose.
The purpose of these rules is #1 to make sure the photos are taken within the specified 24 hour time period and #2 take us outside of our comfort zone and force us to be creative. The judges will be paying special attention to CREATIVITY and UNIQUENESS.
Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including copyright, are not eligible.
HOW TO SUBMIT PHOTOS:

NOTE: You will receive a CONFIRMATION email letting you know we received your email. The Auto-Response email does NOT indicate that you uploaded your photo correctly or that the photo meets the qualifications for submission. Please do not contact us asking if we received your submission. If you got a confirmation email.. we did. If you did not get the confirmation email.. we didn’t.
YOU MUST PROVIDE ALL THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IN YOUR SUBMISSION EMAIL:
EMAIL SUBJECT HEADING: SUBMIT- Your Name (Ex. Mustafa Davis)
- Your FULL name (first and last) & Location (ex: Mustafa Davis, Fremont, CA-USA)
- Email address (ex: mustafa@mustafadavis.com)
- Photo caption: (Provide a photo caption in less than 15 words)
- Facebook profile URL: (ex: www.facebook.com/mustafadavisinc)
We do not accept photographs submitted through Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or any other electronic means other than the specified email address above. Any photo uploaded to FB or submitted by means other than the above email address will be disqualified from competition. You may send the photo as an attachment or in the general body of the email. (Note: 24 Hour Photo Challenge is not responsible for errors in uploading and/or sending the files. If the photo does not come through correctly before the 24 hour deadline, the photo will be automatically disqualified from the competition).
Each contestant may submit ONE (1) photograph only.
NO LOGOS or ©, or ANY text whatsoever are allowed on the photos. Any photos containing a logo or copyright will be automatically disqualified from competition.
Photographs must be in a .JPEG, .JPG or .GIF format (ONLY). Files submitted may not be larger than 2,048k (2Mb).
The 24 Hour Photo Challenge reserves the right to disqualify contestants who do not submit photos in the correct format or photos larger than 2,048k (2Mb).
The 24 Hour Photo Challenge judges reserve the right to disqualify any photo if any of the above required information is missing or inaccurate.
All photos remain the copyright of the original photographer. You retain all ownership rights in your photographs. We will not sell or redistribute your photos. By submitting your photo you give us the right to publicly display your work.
ENTRY DEADLINE:
All entries must be received via email (submit@24hourphotochallenge.com) by SATURDAY DECEMBER 11, 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time (PST).
Any email received with a date stamp after 11:59PM Dec 11th will automatically be disqualified from competition :: NO EXCEPTIONS.
JUDGING:
Judging will be conducted by Mustafa Davis, Ridwan Adhami, Peter Gould and David Platford. Judges will judge on composition/framing, focus/sharpness, lighting, story and creativity and choose the first, second, and third place winners. Special emphasis will be placed on creativity and uniqueness of the photo.
WINNERS ANNOUNCED:
Judges will announce the winners on Saturday, January 1st – 2011.

Prize money will be issued in the form of check, money order or PayPal transfer. Other prizes will be mailed to the winners directly from the company or organization donating the prize. Please allow 3 to 5 weeks delivery for winning prizes.

The Facebook Choice Award goes to the photo that receives the most ‘LIKES’ during the contest judging period :: The winner of the online Facebook Choice award will receive (1) Hand-made Subha by Dhikr Factory ($90) NOTE: You do NOT need to post your photo on FB for the FB Choice Award. Simply email your submission to submit@24hourphotochallenge.com and the 24 HOUR PHOTO CHALLENGE staff will handle everything (including posting ALL the qualifying submission to FB to be voted on. Posting the photo to FB on your own could result in disqualification.
WHAT AM I AGREEING TO BY ENTERING A PHOTOGRAPH?
By entering the Contest you represent and warrant to 24 Hour Photo Challenge that: (i) you meet all eligibility requirements of the Contest; (ii) all information provided and representations made by you in entering the Contest are true and correct; (iii) that you have and will comply in all respects with these Official Rules (including the Policies, and all statutes, orders, regulations, and other laws applicable to the Contest); and (iv) any photographs entered by you consist entirely of your own original work in which you hold all necessary rights, including without limitation copyrights, trademark rights, and rights of publicity.
